Belsize Park Removals Health and Safety Policy
Belsize Park Removals is committed to providing removal services that protect the health, safety and welfare of our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with home and office removals, transportation, loading and unloading, packing, storage and related activities within our service area.
We aim to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health by identifying hazards, implementing effective controls and continuously improving our practices. Health and safety considerations are integrated into all planning and operational decisions.
Policy Objectives
Our key health and safety objectives are to:
Promote a safe working environment for all staff and contractors involved in removal services. Minimise risks associated with manual handling, lifting, carrying, working in confined or cluttered spaces and use of vehicles and equipment. Protect customers and the public from hazards during removals, including when operating in residential streets, commercial premises and shared access areas. Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with relevant health and safety laws, regulations and industry standards. Provide information, instruction, training and supervision so that staff can work safely and responsibly. Investigate incidents, near misses and complaints to prevent recurrence and improve our performance.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Belsize Park Removals holds overall responsibility for the implementation, monitoring and review of this Health and Safety Policy. Management will:
Provide adequate resources to maintain safe systems of work, including suitable equipment, vehicles, protective gear and training. Ensure that risk assessments are carried out for key activities, such as carrying heavy or awkward items, using stairs, working near traffic and operating lifting equipment. Review accident reports, near misses and health and safety concerns, and implement corrective actions where required. Communicate health and safety expectations clearly to employees, contractors and, where appropriate, customers. Regularly review this policy and associated procedures to reflect changes in legislation, industry best practice and the nature of our services.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees and contractors working for Belsize Park Removals share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. They are required to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety, and that of colleagues, customers and the public who may be affected by their actions. Follow all health and safety instructions, training and procedures provided by the company. Use equipment, vehicles and protective gear correctly and report any defects or concerns without delay. Avoid taking unnecessary risks, such as attempting to lift items that are too heavy or awkward without assistance or equipment. Report all accidents, incidents, near misses and hazards to their line manager or supervisor at the earliest opportunity. Co operate with any investigation, audit or review of health and safety matters.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Risk assessments are carried out for typical removal activities to identify hazards and determine appropriate control measures. These include, but are not limited to:
Manual handling of furniture, boxes and appliances. Movement of items through doorways, corridors, staircases and lifts. Loading and unloading vehicles at properties and storage facilities. Parking, vehicle movement and working near roads or in busy areas. Packing and unpacking services at customer premises. Temporary storage and stacking of goods in vehicles and storage units.
Based on these assessments, Belsize Park Removals implements safe working procedures such as team lifting, use of trolleys and handling equipment, clear walkways, secure stacking methods and safe parking and loading practices.
Training and Competence
We recognise that competent and well trained staff are essential to maintaining high health and safety standards. Belsize Park Removals provides appropriate induction and ongoing training covering, as relevant:
Safe lifting and carrying techniques and manual handling principles. Correct use of trolleys, straps, ramps and other handling equipment. Vehicle safety, loading and securing loads. Awareness of slips, trips and falls hazards in homes, offices and shared areas. Emergency procedures, including evacuation and incident reporting. Personal protective equipment use and limitations.
Additional training may be provided where specialist tasks or equipment are involved. Staff are encouraged to ask questions and raise any concerns they have about safe working methods.
Vehicles, Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment
All vehicles and equipment used by Belsize Park Removals are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition, in line with manufacturer guidance and legal requirements. Pre use checks are carried out where appropriate, and any faults are reported and addressed promptly.
Where necessary, personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety footwear and high visibility garments is provided. Staff are expected to use this equipment correctly whenever required and to report any damage or loss.
Customer and Public Safety
Our teams take care to minimise disruption and risk to customers and the public when operating in residential streets, commercial premises and shared access areas. This includes:
Positioning vehicles safely, with consideration for pedestrians, neighbours and other road users. Keeping access routes as clear as reasonably possible while work is in progress. Using caution when carrying large items near doorways, pavements or communal spaces. Communicating clearly with customers about any temporary restrictions or hazards during the move.
Incident Reporting and Continuous Improvement
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences associated with our removal services are recorded and, where appropriate, investigated. The findings are used to improve risk assessments, procedures and training.
Belsize Park Removals is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. We welcome feedback from staff, customers and others who may be affected by our activities, and we use this information to refine our practices and maintain safe, reliable removal services.
Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to ensure it remains relevant, effective and aligned with current legislation and best practice in the removals industry.
